Chicago at the Ziegfeld

Boy what a great time at the movies last night! Rob Marshall's film of Bob Fosse's Chicago is playing exclusively at the Ziegfeld theater and judging from last night's sold-out screening, it could become a cult classic.

It's amazing what they did with such a simple, dead story. Even seeing the show live doesn't pull that much into the story itself. But in this film version, the songs come alive through the story and visuals, and carry the story itself, rather than being merely show-stoppers in the middle of a show.

Apparently Robert DeNiro was at the 7pm show, but that was sold out when we got there. I can imagine how much more of an audience reaction this would have achieved. At the show we went to people clapped after every number, laughed so hard we couldn't hear lines, etc. And the dialogue was also spiced up by Bill Condon's talented pen, really bringing this story alive.

I'm really quite amazed. Hollywood is such a dangerous place for creativity but we do seem to be seeing more films that are more interesting and have a new slant.

Chicago. Heartily recommended.

Oh, man, it's been a tough week. They've switched us to a two-week payday from an every week payday, so we're all screwed. On the 24th we got a small check from 3 days of the previous week. It's the last check we get until January 15th, and then on that day we're only getting the other two days of the previous week, plus the 5 out of 10 days we could actually work during the holiday period.

Cute, huh?

So none of us can pay rent, which is ugly. So, I've gone through the shelves and pulled out close to 200 books, magazines, CDs, tapes, videotapes, etc. and listed them on eBay. The auctions are ending from the 1st to the 8th. If you're into cool, weird fun stuff check out: Shade's January eBay auctions
